Activities
Morris Island Lighthouse- view this lighthouse across the water from the far east end of the island. Fun spot to bike or golf cart to and then explore the flats by foot.
Folly Beach County Park- great beach access if you want showers and bathrooms! Sweet spot to see the sunset.
Pirates Cove Playground- just a few blocks away! Great for kids of all ages.
Wave Watch Playground- west side of Folly but not too far- another fun playground.
James Island County Park- a few miles away but worth the drive! This county park is insane: miles of biking and hiking trails, water park, splash pad, 3 playgrounds, paddle boats, kayaks, paddle boards, fishing docks, 50’ climbing wall, ropes course and more.
Wild Blue Ropes- fun for kids and adults alike! This ropes course is a few miles away, next to Martin’s BBQ (we like to climb before lunch or dinner!). Very cool experience.
Charlestowne Landing- awesome destination with kids! Bike, scoot or walk around the historic spot where Charleston was first founded. There’s an animal area (bears! otters!), a model boat you can explore, beautiful gardens, historic buildings and more.
The South Carolina Aquarium- this downtown aquarium is not to be missed! Spectacular exhibits and sea creatures overlooking the harbor.
Folly Restaurants
Chico Feo- outdoor bar and restaurant with a small, funky menu, great food, good beer and live music
Bert’s Market- grab a corndog for the kids while you enjoy a beer at Chico Feo next door! This market has everything from deli sandwiches made to order and sausage biscuits at breakfast to wine, beach toys, flip flops and groceries.
Lowlife Bar- walking distance indoor/outdoor restaurant for lunch and dinner. Good for kids!
Rita’s Seaside Grille- a great take on your typical beachy restaurant! Normal menu, large outdoor patio. Good for kids!
Taco Boy- Amazing mexican grub and cocktails in a funky, lively atmosphere. Good for kids!
Lost Dog Cafe- worth the wait! Best brunch on the island, great lunch. Bring your dog. Good for kids!
Jack of Cups- our favorite. Hole in the wall spot with insane food, good curries, nice outdoor area. Good for kids (with adventurous palates!).
James Island Restaurants
Bowen’s Island Restaurant- fresh, fried seafood served causally on the creek. Good for kids!
Martin’s BBQ- amazing barbecue spot a few miles up the road. Great for kids!
Edison- high cuisine without going downtown!
Pick Thai- hits the spot when you crave some thai takeout.
